Preparing for PAX assembly: the pre-appointment checklist

2026-06-20

A clean PAX installation doesn't start with the first frame — it starts before we ring the bell. Ten minutes of preparation makes the appointment faster, calmer and saves you time at the end. This checklist covers everything that helps, and explains why we approach wall fixing in an Altbau differently.

1. Clear the wall area

Clear the wall where the wardrobe will stand and leave about 1.5 metres of working space in front of it. We build the frames lying down and then stand them up, which needs room. We cover rugs or delicate floors, and a clear area makes that easier.

2. Keep the cartons ready — and unopened

Leave all IKEA cartons in or near the room. Please don't unpack them in advance: we sort the fittings ourselves and work through the parts lists in order. Opened, mixed-up boxes cost more time than they save.

3. Sort out access and parking

Tell us in advance if your building has a resident-only parking zone, a narrow staircase or Hinterhaus (rear-building) access, so we can plan the route. Travel and parking are included in the fixed price — no surprise on the invoice.

4. Be reachable at the start and the end

You don't need to be there the whole time. But someone should be reachable at the start for a short briefing and at the end for the handover, when we show you the aligned doors and the secured fixing.

Which wall plug does which wall need?

That is decided at the wall: we tap-test it and pick between three cases. The wrong plug is the most common self-assembly mistake — and on a 236 cm wardrobe, the most dangerous one.

- **Solid brick or concrete:** standard expansion plugs hold reliably. - **Hollow lime plaster or hollow brick:** cavity fixings or longer resin/chemical anchors that grip the load-bearing layer. - **Stud/partition wall from a later conversion:** fixing into the stud or dedicated cavity anchors.

This check takes five minutes and decides whether a 236 cm wardrobe is still safely mounted in ten years. That's why it's always part of the job for us.

What should you prepare before the appointment?

Five things, about ten minutes of work in total:

1. Wall area clear, 1.5 m of working space in front.

2. Cartons to hand and unopened.

3. Parking, stairs and rear-building access flagged in advance.

4. One reachable person for the briefing and handover.

5. Mention any known quirks (a very sloped floor, a freshly plastered wall).

That's all we need from you. The rest — measuring, levelling, drilling, aligning — is ours, and the price is fixed before we start.
